Neck Pain Q & A
What Causes Neck Pain?

Many people suffer from neck pain, which is often caused by poor posture, either from sitting at a desk or hunching over a workstation, mobile phone, or tablet, causing strain on the muscles in the neck and upper back. Neck pain is also commonly caused by accidents ranging from slipping and falling to sports injuries or car accidents. Other conditions or issues that may contribute to a pain in the neck include osteoarthritis, degenerative diseases, and abnormalities in the bones and joints. Neck pain is not usually due to a serious medical problem. If your neck pain is accompanied by numbness or loss of strength in your arms or hands, or if you experience shooting pain in your shoulders or arms, make an appointment with Dr. Marin right away.

How is Neck Pain Diagnosed?

When Dr. Marin arrives at your office or home, he will perform a thorough examination, including asking questions about your lifestyle, general health, and any possible accidents or activities that could have led to your pain. You will also have a physical exam so Dr. Marin can see your range of motion and to understand where you feel pain and to what extent. In some circumstances, further testing may be necessary. Additional testing may include x-rays, CT scans, MRIs, and electrodiagnostic studies like nerve conduction velocity and electromyography. Dr. Marin provides many diagnostic services as part of his mobile executive health service.

How Does Dr. Marin Treat Neck Pain?

After Dr. Marin identifies the cause of the neck pain, he will develop a customized treatment plan to provide pain relief as well as cure the root cause. He may include physical therapy treatments to build strength, flexibility, and range of motion in the upper back and neck as well as traditional medical treatments to relieve pain. Dr. Marin is dedicated to helping his patients to improve and maintain their overall health and wellbeing to support optimized performance.
